Halloween had gone to the dogs! Dressing dogs up for Halloween has become hugely popular in the past few years with dog costume parades, contests and parties popping up all over the place. As with any costume, you can go big an elaborate or simple and straight-forward, the possibilities are endless. For those looking to save money but still have some fun this year, try these great DIY dog costume ideas:
- Bride and Groom: If you happen to have more than one pooch, place a bow-tie on one and some white tulle tied with a ribbon on the others head, and you have yourself a wedding!
- Harry Potter: Take pipe cleaners and shape them into glasses and tie a striped cape around your pooch and he’ll be ready for Hogwarts in no time.
- Hot Dog: Take an old dark red sweater that will fit around your pooch and an old pair of khakis or light colored clothing (for the buns) and cut off the legs of the pants. Fill them with pillow stuffing then sew the ends closed. Sew them to the sides of the sweater and voila! You have yourself a hot dog. You can also add mustard with a piece of yellow clothing, depending on how you like your dog.
- Dog Draper: For the Mad Men fans out there, try this one on for size: Take an old dress shirt and remove the cuffs and collar (so they can still be re-used). Measure your pets paw and neck and cut cuffs/collar to appropriate size. Sew up the cut edge on these so they are nice and neat. Throw them on along with a snazzy tie and you’re pup will look like he’s been, well, working like a dog.
- Hostess Cupcake: Because your pooch is as sweet as a can be, right? This costume can be simple if you already have a brown dog coat or sweater. Simply take white fabric paint and paint swirls on the back. Allow to dry and go sweeten up the Halloween scene!
