Modern Home Trends of 2015

Mixing Metallics: Don’t be afraid to mix silver and gold in the New Year and let the two play off each other. In your décor, try playing up industrial- feeling accent pieces with dainty, silver finishes. In the kitchen, mix up your usual silvers with some surprising gold or copper-colored modern silverware.

Banishing Boring Beige: This year, instead of playing safe with home decor, try for a bold, bright change with bright, eye-popping colors and designs.  When it comes to paint, bold colors can be great for a dining room or kitchen. Balance out the brights with neutral shades of gray on trim, or the ceiling or in your accent decorating.

Floral Prints: Another trend for 2015 will be bringing the outside in. Give your décor a touch of spring and incorporate floral designs with nature-inspired decorations and patterns. These designs can also play in nicely to vibrant wall colors and light-gray accents.

Navy: Navy is an excellent color to incorporate into your décor as it is classic and clean but still can be played up or down with the right accents. In a bold-painted room, try tying in navy to accents such as curtains, furniture, or with pillows or throws.

Honey-Tone Woods: Bring a little warmth to your space with honey-tone woods. This accent melds well with most designs, especially bright colors and floral pieces. Subtly incorporating this tone can be done with trim, side tables or with unexpected pieces like wall clocks.

Black Countertops In the Kitchen: For a unique and interesting twist on countertops, try going dark in your kitchen. This is a bold and interesting trend that works perfectly if you have a white or other-wise bright kitchen. A splash of dark makes everything else pops. This also leaves room for fun colorful accents with utensils and dishes.

Quartz is the new granite: If you’re on a budget, quartz is your new best friend.  Quartz is less expensive than exotic granite and if you have a lot of counter space, this can save you thousands without compromising on appearance. Quartz slabs are produced to ensure that the slab is exactly the color, texture and pattern that you want, so you’re still getting the look that you want without the high price tag. Not only is quartz strong, but it is also non-porous. Granite and marble are both porous stones so if you happen to spill on unsealed granite or marble, it could potentially stain the stone permanently.  Quartz is very stain resistant and over-all is the best bang for your design buck.

Metal Backsplashes: Metal backsplashes can bring a unique style element to your home. They come in many different forms including embossed metal,  bronzed and tin designs as well as mixed metal colors to match with an array of kitchen styles.

Black and White: Black and white is always in style. This year, mix up your rooms with some black and white patterned pieces like a wall hanging or striped rug. This is a great way to liven up a space without drastically changing too much in the over-all design.

Brass: Brass is another big trend this year. This rich color is perfect for almost any room. Incorporate this subtly with accent pieces like book shelves. Finish bathrooms with brass handles and knobs. Incorporate it into a living room table with brass pulls. A little touch can go a long way.
