Biography
Terry was trained and owned by Carl Spitz, a Hollywood dog trainer who used a system of hand signals to direct her movements across movie sets. She is best known for her part as Toto in the Wizard of Oz.
She did all of her own stunts and had an almost fatal accident while filming the Wizard of Oz when she was stepped on by another actor, breaking a foot. Following the accident, she spent a two week sojourn at the home of Judy Garland, who later tried to adopt Terry from Carl Spitz unsuccessfully.The only film to credit Terry was the Wizard of Oz, where she is credited as Toto and not Terry.
