Spruce up your pad in less than 48 hours with three simple design upgrades you can DIY in one weekend.
Add a splash with paper. Collect scraps of your favorite wallpaper (or pick up samples at a home décor store) or wrapping paper to create stylish accessories.
For instance, you can line a plain tray or the back of a picture frame with the paper using mod podge. Allow plenty of time to dry before adding accents to the tray or pictures to the frame. To create piece-of-cake holiday decorations, use the same strategy but apply holiday-themed wrapping paper instead. It’s a super cheap way to create themed items that can be stored and reused year-to-year.
Create a vase. For a farm chic vibe in a snap, wrap a twine bow around mason jars. For a mod look on an ordinary glass vase, drip glass paint inside the vase and twist it around a few times to coat the inside with a one-of-a-kind pattern. Or, make a pattern on the outside of the vase with painters tape. Stripes, polka dots, and plaids work well. Then, dip a foam brush in glass or porcelain paint, and evenly coat the outside of the nothing-special vase. When dry, peel off the tape to reveal your design. The best part of this project? Filling your vase with fresh flowers each week!
Spray paint anything. The easiest DIY to knock out in a weekend: spray paint accents. Gather up items that could use a new life, like bookends, tchotchkes, picture frames, mirrors, anything. Choose a spray paint that will complement your existing décor while adding a pop. Metallic is hot right now, as are neons. In a well-ventilated area, apply several thin coats – use blue painter’s tape to cover any spots (like a mirror face) that you don’t want to paint – and allow the items to dry before replacing in your space.
