Every Dog Needs a Home

Three Reasons Why Every Home Needs a Dog

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if there was a way we could instantly bring joy into our lives every day, from the moment we woke up to the time we laid down to go to sleep? Wouldn’t it be even better if it not only provided us with that intense happiness, but was also good for our physical and mental wellbeing?

The good news is that there is a way to bring all these wonderful things together in our lives and into our homes. And that something comes in a fuzzy, loyal, loving package. Dogs can provide us with all of the benefits described above – and so much more, too. Every home needs a dog that is a source of joy, love, and companionship. Countless studies have shown that dogs can improve our lives in several areas:

1. Dogs keep us active and fit.
In 2010, the American Journal of Public Health released a study that said children with dogs spent more time engaged in play, movement, and physical activity than children whose families did not own dogs. Additionally, other similar research has shown adults with dogs are more active than those without, and spend more time walking. This improves heart health and overall fitness. Dogs also serve as stress-relievers, as dog owners have lower blood pressure and fall ill less often than people who don’t own pets.

2. They serve as loyal companions, which improves our emotional and mental health.
Having a dog in the home provides companionship for all family members, and can provide an opportunity for children to learn responsibility as they help to care for family pets. Dog owners are also less likely to be depressed or suffer from anxiety.

3. Dogs can improve our lives outside our homes, too.
Having a dog gives your social life a boost. There are more opportunities to get out and about and interact with other people (both who own dogs or are pet-free). Most people naturally gravitate towards dogs – which means they also naturally gravitate toward dog owners.

The benefits to opening your home and heart to a dog are endless, as any dog owner will attest. Every home needs a dog – and every dog needs a family that can spoil him rotten in return for that enormous amount of love he generates!
